Tōtara Haumaru
Tōtara Haumaru is a new four-storey hospital building with:
- Eight surgical theatres, including associated pre and post-operative facilities on the Ground floor
- An endoscopy suite comprising four procedure rooms, preparation and recovery space on Level 1
- Five 30-bed inpatient wards across three floors. Tahi is on Level 1, Rua and Toru on level 2, and Wha and Rima on Level 3.

Tōtara Haumaru is located on the southern area of the North Shore Hospital Campus.
Tōtara Haumaru is accessed via the Shakespeare Road or the Shae Terrace entrances to North Shore Campus. Tōtara Haumaru has a separate entrance with a drop-off zone and car parks. This entrance is at Level 1 of the building

Tōtara Haumaru | The Sheltering Tōtara
Nā Dame Rangimārie Naida Glavish (Ngāti Whātua) te ingoa Tōtara Haumaru i takoha hei whakamaumaharatanga ki tētahi tōtara i tū ai ki te wāhi nei. Ko ōna rau kei whakamarumaru mō te tangata i te wera o Tamanui-te-rā.
Kei tēnei ingoa he hononga nui ki te taiao. Ka mutu, ki tā te ao Māori titiro ko Tāne nga rākau ko ia e hono ana i te rangi me te whenua.
He tokomaha ōna āhua, heio kei aua āhua anō, ko te ora me te pitomata.
The name of this building, Tōtara Haumaru, was given by Dame Rangimārie Naida Glavish (Ngāti Whātua), and reflects a single tōtara that once stood on this site. The foliage of the tōtara would provide shelter to staff and visitors from the heat of the sun.
The name also reflects our inherent connection to nature. From a Māori perspective, trees are Tāne and form the connection between earth and sky.
Tāne takes many forms, each form – like Tōtara Haumaru is a symbol of life, wellbeing and potential.
