What to bring
Clothes
- Comfortable day clothes
- Night-dress or pyjamas and dressing gown
- Slippers/shoes/jandals
Toiletry items
- Toothbrush/toothpaste
- Personal grooming items
Glasses, hearing aids and dentures
- Bring the cases for your glasses and hearing aid so they can be put away safely when you are not wearing them
- If you wear dentures, please bring your dentures container with you
- Please do not leave these items on the top of your locker in case they are lost during cleaning times
Valuables
- We recommend no more than $20 should be kept with you
- Free WiFi is available so items such as a mobile phone / tablet and charger
- If you bring a personal entertainment device (e.g. iPad) please bring headphones to minimise disturbance to others
- Pen, notebook, book
- You are also able to bring your own pillow and pillow case
- We recommend personal items be named
- Valuables/money may be kept in a locked cupboard in the ward or deposited in the hospital safe
- Waitemata DHB does NOT accept any responsibility for the loss of any personal item
Medications
- You are encouraged (or your caregivers) to bring your medicines with you on admission - especially if it is an acute admission
- This will assist the medical staff to provide the best care and treatment
- The medication will not be used when you are an in-patient except as a temporary measure until a supply can be obtained
- Your own medication will be stored in a dedicated area on the ward
- This does not apply if patients are self-medicating with medication supplied from the hospital pharmacy
